Police arrests 7 land guards at Kokrobite
The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested 7 land guards operating at Kokrobite for terrorizing land developers and property owners.
The arrest follows a stern warning issued by the new Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Alex Mensah, Wednesday in an interview, where he declared war against land guards vowed to use all legal means to wipe them out of the system during his tenure.
Acting upon a tipoff, the police moved in on the land guards who were demanding an amount of 1,500 cedis from a land developer at gunpoint.
" The police gathered intelligence that 2 groups suspected to be engaged in land guards activities had clashed over a piece of land within Kokrobite. They had both gone to claim digging fees from the land developer, thus resulting in a developing dispute. The police team moved in and had 7 of them arrested, while others escaped through the bushes, leaving their motorbikes behind.", DCOP Mensah narrated.
"They shall be arranged before the court tomorrow. The police want to sound a word of caution, to all those who engage the services of these land guards. We will stop at nothing to ensure that the menace of land guards will be brought to a halt. The war against land guards continues unabated."
The activities of land guards over the years have resulted in the deaths and butchering of many, as well as the destruction of numerous property and the terrorizing of communities.
